Five global finalists from the 2016 Peter F. Heering® Classics were announced last week during London Cocktail Week festivities. The final five global finalists created an inspired modern classic cocktail with CHERRY HEERING® and presented their modern classic and philosophy behind at the finale event at Joyeux Bordel London.

Heering® Classics finalists were selected by a global jury comprised of Simon Difford – one of the worlds most renowned and respected drinks experts, David WondrichJames Beard Award Winner for his book Imbibe! and founding partner on Beverage Alcohol Resource, the United States leading training program for bartenders and other mixologists, Din Hassan, a veteran from the Singapore nightlife industry, Hamish Smith, a multi-award winning drinks journalist at Drinks International Magazine, Lauren Mote, Co-proprietor of Bittered Sling, a wildly successful line of high quality small batch cocktail and culinary bitters and Charlene Dawes, Managing Director and Owner of Tastings Group Limited.

15ml Ardbeg poured into ice filled Boston, stir and strain out liquid, leaving whisky coated ice in Boston.   Then put into Boston…

35ml Botanist Gin

15ml Cherry Heering

10ml Briottet Liqueur de Violette

15ml Fresh lemon juice

15ml Sugar syrup (3:1)

Shake all ingredients together and fine strain into chilled speakeasy martini glass.   Garnished with cherry and lemon twist.

25ml rye whisky (Rittenhouse Rye 100)

-Build in mixing glass or a Boston glass -Add ice  -Stir -Strain over block ice  Orange twist to garnish  (I have put my preferred brands for use in this cocktail)

.25oz Fernet Branca

1oz Lemon Juice

1 egg white

Shake all ingredients without ice, then with ice. Double strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with fresh grated nutmeg.

4,5cl Copperhead Gin

3cl Cherry Heering

2 bsp Honey Acacia

6 Fresh raspberries

1,5cl Resh lime juice

1 Whole egg white

4 dash Elemakule Tiki Bitters

Garnish: Marzipan flavored with cherry and honey

Glass: Martini cocktail glass

Method: Crush raspberries and add all ingredients. Dry shaken, shake with ice. Double strain

20ml Gin

10ml Carpano Antica Formula

10ml Bordeaux blend red wine (Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc)

20ml Lemon juice

5ml Sugar

Shake with ice and double strain into a chilled glass. Serve with a cloth sprayed with a smokey whisky.

The 2016 PETER F. HEERING CLASSIC CHALLENGE invites the best bar talent in the world to contribute to cocktail history by creating their version of a modern classic cocktail, using CHERRY HEERING® liqueur.  The competition builds on successful years of the PETER F. HEERING SLING AWARD, which received tremendous support from bartenders, invited to create their version of the Singapore Sling,  one of the oldest classic cocktails, created in 1915 featuring CHERRY HEERING® liqueur as the main ingredient. Bartender Niang Tong Boon created this famous and now classic Singapore Sling at the Raffle’s Hotel in Singapore.

The 2016 PETER F. HEERING CLASSIC CHALLENGE asks bartenders from around the globe to pick a  classic cocktail and modernize it with a twist that best defines their talent, taste, personality and what most inspires them about using CHERRY HEERING® in a modern classic cocktail. This annual CHERRY HEERING® competition starts with four rounds, with ten semi-finalists competing to become one of the five finalist shaking up their inspired CHERRY HEERING® cocktail during the spectacular London Cocktail Week.

How to participate | The 2016 PETER F. HEERING Classic Challenge

Qualification – Pick a classic cocktail and create a modern classic with a twist. We encourage the use of local ingredients in order to recreate the recipe, commercially available products are recommended. The drink must include CHERRY HEERING®. Quarterfinal – An international expert jury will select one winner from each participating country. Out of the national winners, ten will be selected for the semi-final

Semi-Final – The ten semi-finalists will compete during London Cocktail Week at the beginning of October. Our international expert jury will then choose five finalists among the ten. Apart from the honor and media attention, all ten semi-finalist get airfare and hotel stay in vibrant London

Finale – The five finalists will personally present their cocktails and philosophy behind them at the final during London Cocktail Week 2016. The winner receives €500, a Stelton Shaker and global exposure

BOSTON, MARCH 10 – WELCOME SPEEDRACK AND CHERRY HEERING

The lady mixologists will be well represented with the inclusion of the national Speed Rack Competition (http://www.speed-rack.com) which will kick off its annual national tour in Tucson at the Tony Abou Ganim Southwest Spirit Summit. Founders Lynette Marrero and Ivy Mix are superstar mixologists who created the Speed Rack national cocktail competition that features top female bartenders in key cocktail markets and puts them head to head in action- packed timed and judged challenges. Speed Rack is the first competition created to highlight the up and coming generation of strong, talented women in the spirits industry. Proceeds from all Speed Rack Competitions go towards breast cancer research and services throughout the United States.
