Heering on the Intoxicologist

Keeping Halloween Classic: Blood & Sand

This classic cocktail leans to the sweeter side of cocktail creation, but stands as an excellent example of scotch’s use in drink recipes. The tiniest hint of smoke intertwines with Cherry Heering’s playful chocolate notes for a richly rewarding sip. Its underlying orange flavor adds the perfect touch of balance. Though the recipe calls for blended scotch, it would be most interesting to sample the Blood and Sand with something a wee bit more robust such as Laphroaig Quarter Cask, Laphroaig 18 or The Macallan 17 since all carry heartier tones and would play rather nicely with the wisps of chocolate in the Cherry Heering Liqueur.
