SPEED RACK IN UK JUNE 2013

PETER F. HEERING SLING AWARD 2013

TOM TERRIFIC ON BOSTON.COM

Park, Harvard Square

Posted by Josh Childs

Beer cocktails are not easy, but when they succeed, well, everyone’s happy, including me. Chris Balchum pouring the other night at Park in Harvard Square is doing just that with:

Tom Terrific by Daren Swisher
1 ¾ oz. Hayman’s Old Tom Gin (slightly sweeter style than London dry)
½ oz. Cherry Heering (Brandy based cherry liqueur)
½ oz. Demerara Syrup (richer simple syrup made with sugar in the raw- named after a formerly colonized area of Guyana)
½ oz. Lemon Juice
2 oz. Great Divide Titan IPA

Combine ingredients over ice. Shake and strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass.
Top with 2 oz. IPA; roll back and forth in a shaker tin.
Garnish with an orange and cherry flag. Sweet, sour, pleasantly bitter hops, perfectly balanced and ready for Spring refreshment.

Oh What a Night We Had at The Mercedes Club Heering Sling Fling!

Last Saturday, despite the gloomy weather, we were all glowing with excitement at the Mercedes Club in midtown. Between the incredibly bright cocktails featuring Heering (both the Cherry variety its sultry Coffee-flavored sister) and Xante (a Swedish pear liquor), the pop-up Mercedes Style and Beauty Bars for both Men and Women (brought to us by Trumans), and the spectacular rooftop setting, how could we not feel as happy as sunshine? Men were treated to a brush-up, shave, a shine or a mustache trim, while their better halves enjoyed hand and shoulder massages and facial consultations.

As if those indulgences weren’t enough, guests were also treated to a carnival of small bites, like Bahn-Mi by Red’s, boozy snow cones, and oysters with molecular pearls of deliciousness created by FOX’s Gordon Ramsey Hell’s Kitchen Finalist and BRAVO Chef Roble & Co. Star, Celebrity Chef Rob McCue.

Though the balcony was set up for a variety of games like ping-pong and bocci, the night’s revelers were content to make merry with each other, eating and drinking the fine beverages available. Of the many passed throughout the night, our favorite was the Cherry Heering version of the Sinapore Sling–refreshing and effervescent–it perfectly fit the mode of the evening. Also of note were the innovative presentations of the classic blood and sand cocktail, mixed up with Heering and presented in a replica of the iconic Heering bottle, served with just a straw — a perfect addition to a very playful night.

Though we didn’t get a chance to purvey the entirety of the Mercedes Club facilities, we most certainly were impressed with its cutting edge design and spectacular location (the other. huge oudoor deck with enormous swimming pool wasn’t bad either).

Of course, it is imperative to mention that the evening’s enjoyments were not for the sake of pure decadence alone, but were to benefit Speed Rack & SHARE in the FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER! And we certainly love to tip our glass to that!
