Karoulias announces: top position for Greece

The following is posted on Karoulias website (the distributor of Heering in Greece):

The highest distinction took Greece’s participation in the Heering World Championship 2009, the global competition in “fashion mixing & drink designing” organised by Cherry Heering® liqueur, the original Cherry Liqueur since 1818. The Grand Final took place on June 3 & 4 in Singapore awarding top honors in the fashion competition to Mr. Loukas-Athanasios Alifraghis, the young, talented student of IEK AKMI Fashion Design School and his Heering-inspired “dramatic” dress made of red, silk taffetas. Mr. Eiji Miyazawa from Japan was the winner of the mixologists competition, while Stephanos Paraskevoudis, the Greek finalist in this category, was also highly commented by the jury for his cocktail participation.

The Grand Final was glamorously held in the legendary Raffles Hotel, the place where, in 1915, the famous Singapore Sling, Heering’ s signature cocktail, was born. A unique experience and a great opportunity for international acknowledgment await the winners of the competition: Mr. Alifraghis will have the honour to present his own runway show at the internationally acclaimed Copenhagen Fashion Week (Spring/Summer 2010) while Mr Miyazawa will soon have his own cocktail book created together with Peter F. Heering.

More than 10.000 participants worldwide submitted their contributions to The Heering World Championship 2009, from more than 100 countries ranging across the globe. Of these, 15 countries qualified directly and through the open class and were represented at the global final at the Raffles Hotel. The mixologists were invited to create a Heering cocktail inspired by a unique haute couture dress while designers to design a cocktail dress inspired by a Heering cocktail. In Greece, the preliminary round for the fashion competition was presided by Mr Makis Tselios, the famous Greek fashion designer, while the mixologists competition was held under the auspices of the Greek Barmen Association.

About Cherry Heering® liqueur
A drink with a history of two centuries, based on a secret recipe created in 1818, in Copenhagen, by Peter F. Heering, the Cherry Heering® liqueur – the “original cherry liqueur” – became the inspiration for several of the most famous cocktails in the world. In 1915, Ngiam Tong Boon, bartender at the legendary Raffles Hotel in Singapore, by a stroke of genius, used Cherry Heering® liqueur to create a new, and later on world-famous cocktail: Singapore Sling. At that moment, he unknowingly defined the “core” of Heering’s unique character: A drink that, quite like a fashion accessory, adds lavishness, extravagance and civilization to the mix!

Cherry Heering® liqueur is distributed in Greece by W.S. KAROULIAS.

Singapore press release, the Heering World Championship…

A Dramatic Heering Cocktail Meets Rock N’ Roll Fashion Design at the Raffles Hotel for the Global Finals of Heering Accessorize 2009 Local Singapore Mixologist and Designer to welcome and compete against 14 other countries for a chance to become the Ultimate Fashion Accessory for Cherry Heering at the Global Finals of Heering Accessorize 2009 in Singapore

May/2009: There has always been Drama when it comes to Rock n’ Roll and now both come
together for Cherry Heering® liqueur, the original Danish Cherry Brandy since 1818. The Peter F.
Heering Company today announced the Singapore winners of Heering Accessorize 2009, The World
Championship in Fashion Mixing and Drinks Designing. A Heering inspired cocktail, The Dramatic
Wedding, created by Vince Ang Choon Seng and a Rock n’ Roll engaging Heering dress designed by
Huynh Huu Ngoc Tram from the Raffles Design Institute, will step to the world stage in Singapore to
compete in the Global Finals of Heering Accessorize 2009.
“It was a natural choice for the Heering brand to arrange the final of the Global World Championship
in fashion mixing and drink designing in Singapore. This is like a second home for the Danish Heering
brand and also one of the most exotic places in the world where the Singapore Sling once was
created by Mr Ngiam Tong Boon at the Raffles Hotel. Heering Cherry is the main component in the
world famous Singapore Sling and we feel like we own the history together with the Raffles Hotel in
Singapore.” said Ms Adele Nilsson, CEO of Heering.
“As the exclusive importers for Heering Cherry, we are privileged to be the host country for this
inaugural event. In what our lovely country can offer Uniquely Singapore, we are privileged to be a
part of what is undeniably Singapore’s iconic cocktail, which is uniquely Heering Cherry.” added Mr
Clinton Ang, Managing Director of Hock Tong Bee-CornerStone
The Singapore qualifying round for Heering Accessorize 2009 was an online experience at
www.heering.com, with one design and mixology winner being selected to compete in the global Grand Finale taking place locally at the legendary Raffles Hotel in Singapore on June 4th, 2009
“With the Cherry Heering being a key ingredient in the iconic Singapore Sling which was first
concocted in Raffles Hotel decades ago, it is appropriate that the inaugural Heering Accessorize will
be held in Singapore at the location where it all started.” said Mr Andrew Phua, Director of Tourism
Shopping and Dining at the Singapore Tourism Board, supporter of the event. “Heering Accessorize
may combine a curious combination of fashion and drink mixing, but considering how both require a
good dose of creativity and skill, it makes perfect sense. The event is the ideal platform to showcase
Singapore’s buzzing nightlife and vibrant fashion scene, as personified through the best upcoming
cocktail mixologist and fashion designer to be crowned at the event. We take this opportunity to
wish competing mixologists and designers all the best and hope that they will take the opportunity to
experience some of Singapore’s exciting lifestyle offerings.”
Cherry Heering searched for the top mixologists who could create a unique cocktail recipe inspired
by a cocktail dress designed by Swedish top designer Lars Wallin for Heering Accessorize 2009 and for
designers who can create a cocktail dress inspired by one of six Cherry Heering cocktails, created by
Scandinavian world class mixologist Richard Broni. In addition, mixologist entrants will be able to
select a specially designed glassware piece from The House of Orrefors to accompany to their Cherry
Heering inspired cocktail recipe.
The high profile Heering Accessorize juries from around the world have selected the best of the best
to come to Singapore. Members of juries include such notable mixology and fashion talents such as
PPQ (UK) – cutting edge designers Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker of British fashion emporium
PPQ, Charlotte Ronson (US), whose collection gained instant recognition and the attention of
renowned publications such as Vogue, Elle, Teen Vogue, WWD and the New York Times and now has
her flagship boutique on Elizabeth Street in New York’s hip NoLita neighborhood, Francois Picot
(GER), founder and creative director of the ESMOD, Germany’s most important international
university for fashion and design and Derrick Lee (SINGAPORE), President, International Bartenders
Association (IBA)

The first place prizes to be awarded in Singapore, apart from the honor and international exposure of
winning Heering Accessorize 2009, will be the right for the mixology winner to publish his/her own
cocktail book together with Peter F. Heering by the end of 2009. The winning fashion designer will be
awarded their own runway show at the internationally acclaimed Copenhagen Fashion Week
(Spring/Summer 2010)

Huynh Huu Ngoc Tram took the notion of classic cocktail dressing and the rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic
beyond the literal, thus resulting in a design that reinterprets sexy rebellion.
You can easily imagine this design being worn by a Young Hollywood starlet on the red carpet or off
— it’s a standout dress for a night out on the town. This tunic dress is also very modern, from its
silhouette, playing on volume and drape, to the embellishment, which is both earthy yet luxe.09
